A song series
These three songs seem to me to carry a musical idea forward, from the early 80s to the late 80s to the near-present:
Quarterflash - Harden My Heart (1981); written by Quarterflash guitarist Marv Ross
Alannah Myles - Black Velvet (1989); songwriters: Christopher Ward and David Tyson
Lissie - When I'm Alone (2010); songwriters: Lissie, Jim Irvin, and Julian Emery

This is an interesting blog, my friend, but I'm worried about you endorsing Quarterflash. Not only is "Harden My Heart" a world class awful song, but Rindy Ross is without question the worst saxophone player in the history of popular music.
:-)
Their hits got to me at a formative time. I was 14-15. They were different for a modern rock band, still on the leading edge of women-led artists. Just before Benatar and Heart hit their primes. What other band even tried to have the lead vocalist do solo sax work?
